Hi, I'm the person behind Stephen Travel — a travel blog built on a simple premise: that meaningful travel doesn't require a huge budget, a gap year, or permission from anyone.
I started this site after quitting my corporate job to travel indefinitely with a carry-on bag and a vague plan. That was five years and 40+ countries ago. What I found along the way — the practical systems, the money hacks, the moments of genuine connection in places I couldn't have found on a tour — is what I write about here.
This blog isn't about Instagram-perfect travel. It's about travel as it actually is: complicated, occasionally uncomfortable, and endlessly worth it.
My Travel Philosophy
I believe the best travel happens slowly. Rushing between highlights misses the point. The good stuff — the conversations, the discoveries, the way a place reveals itself — takes time.
I believe budget travel is not budget experience. Staying in a family-run guesthouse over a chain hotel, eating where locals eat, getting lost without a map — these make for richer trips, not poorer ones.
